According to the International Women’s Day website, March 8 is a “global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women while also marking a call to action for accelerating gender balance.”

It’s no secret that women have been striving for equality forever. Equality in pay, equality in qualification, and equality in education and opportunities. Barriers like resources and attitudes exist in every country. On International Women’s Day, these issues are brought to the forefront of thought and openly talked about.

Simply put: The more diverse we are, the more successful we are. On this International Women’s Day, we celebrate you — all of you. You are unique. You are strong. You are beautiful, and you should be celebrated.

We hope you feel empowered, not just on March 8, but every day. It’s important to note that empowerment might feel and look different from one woman to another. Maybe feeling empowered looks like a stay-at-home mom making it through the grocery store with all three kids and not one meltdown. Maybe it’s a woman who isn’t ashamed or ridiculed for breastfeeding her baby in public. Maybe it’s a girl who can safely walk to school. Maybe it’s making a company-wide decision or earning that highly sought-after promotion because, girlfriend, you earned it! Maybe it’s simply knowing you can wear your favorite empowering pink high heels with the bows because you know what you wear on your feet doesn’t compete with your capabilities.

We hope feeling empowered means you feel confident in being yourself. Show your confidence in a smart jacket or a figure-flattering wrap dress. We have a few great finds below that would be great for showing off your confident self!

A Great Blazer

Second hand blazer

A well-fitted blazer can go a l-o-n-g way in making a gal feel empowered and put together. We like this plaid piece from White House Black Market. It would work well with a great pair of black ankle pants, a cream-colored blouse and pumps, or wear it over a black T-shirt dress. It’s versatile enough to swing to the casual side, too. Try pairing it with a slouchy graphic tee and a pair of cuffed boyfriend jeans.

Second hand blazer

Another great blazer is this one from The Limited. The color is bold and makes such a statement on its own, we think a great empowering look would be wearing it over an all-black base with a beautiful statement necklace or great pair of earrings.

Blazers don’t have to be stiff and stuffy either. If your wardrobe is a little more casual, a blazer can work for you, too. Try cuffing or rolling the sleeves or even pushing them up. Want in on a little secret? Grab a rubber band and put it over the cuff of your blazer sleeve. Push your sleeve up and bunch up the extra fabric to cover up the rubber band. Your sleeve will stay in place, giving you a literal care-free vibe.

A Flattering Dress

Second hand wrap dress

The queen of flattering dresses is a wrap dress, like this printed one from Apt. 9. Listen when we say: Every woman should get themselves a wrap dress. They are universally flattering and give you curves in all the right places, leaving you feeling womanly and confident.

Second hand plus size dress

Every woman also should get herself a great power dress. This is a dress that makes you feel like a powerful goddess. We love this NWT, bold, plus-sized dress from London Style and the waist-defining details. It’s attention grabbing, flattering and feminine.
